Swami Kriyananda meets with Abdul Kalam, the President of India

April 19, 2006

Swami Kriyananda met with Abdul Kalam, the President of India, on April 19th. The two men had a cordial and harmonious meeting. The discussion ranged across topics including unity among religions, solar energy, and eradication of poverty.

Both men also have a deep interest in education. During the meeting, Kriyananda gave Abdul Kalam his recently published prospectus for the "Yoga Institute of Living Wisdom," a new project Ananda is launching in India. This idea is based on Paramhansa Yogananda's concept of a "Yoga University," a school where students can become versed not only in traditional academic subjects, but can also learn the practical lessons of how to become balanced, harmonious adults.

Kriyananda also presented Mr. Kalam with copies of The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita, Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, and Education for Life, the latter two of which are available for free online.
